Implementing and Sustaining a Telepractice Program
Presented by Lyn Covert, PhD, CCC-SLP
Recording Length: 2 hours
Dr. Covert is a speech pathologist at the VA Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. She received a master’s degree in speech pathology from the University of Kentucky in 1988 and a doctorate in rehabilitation sciences from the University of Kentucky in 2007. She treats adults with communication and swallowing disorders related to CVA, neurological disease, and head and neck cancer. Currently, she is the coordinator for SIG 18, Telepractice. Her research interest includes using telehealth technology to provide speech and language services
Traditional systems of delivery of speech pathology services may be difficult to access for many individuals. Speech-language pathologists and audiologists seek alternative ways to provide services that may include use of telecommunication technology to enhance and expand delivery of services by increasing available options. This technology will enable persons with disabilities to have equitable access to services. Options for implementing and sustaining a successful telepractice program using telecommunication technology will be presented.
At the conclusion of this course, learners will be able to describe how to implement a telepractice program, define licensure, reimbursement, and ethical considerations related to telepractice, identify appropriate clients for telepractice, sustain a telepractice program and create the environment to accommodate telepractice.
