Where can you energize your love for your profession and re-vitalize your commitment to those you
serve? If you guessed the 2023 KSHA Convention on Communication Sciences and Disorders, then
bravo! You are right on target!
This February, we invite you to “Ignite… Be the Spark for Positive Impact” by attending and empowering your practice. Our Committee is working hard to bring you:
Motivation – Don’t miss our keynote speaker, Phuong Lien Palafox, bilingual speech-language pathologist, advocate and author of The Heartbeat of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology: Feelings, Fire and Fuel who will bring passion and enthusiasm as she shares her story to inspire those who work with individuals with communication needs.
Excellence – Don’t miss our luncheon speaker, Lori Gonzalez, who, as a Kentucky speech-language pathologist, rose to the rank of interim president at the University of Louisville.
Stimulation – Don’t miss evidence-based sessions across all areas of our practice, with topics covering early
intervention, school-age, adults, audiology, ethics, and supervision, as well as student and professional posters.
Fun – Don’t miss the silent auction with proceeds benefitting the speech-language pathologists and audiologists of tomorrow and of course, be there to cheer on your favorite team during the Praxis competition for the coveted Golden Brain trophy!
We have such talent in our commonwealth and beyond— come see how exciting these topics can be!
We are thrilled and honored to be your co-chairs of this fabulous Convention! The Hyatt Lexington is now accepting hotel reservations and online registration is open. Please share the excitement with your colleagues who may not be aware of all that KSHA has to offer. We hope you are as excited as we are to connect, in person, with old friends while making new ones.

Alice Inman and Candra Grether
Keynote Presentation
Phuong Palafox, MS, CCC-SLP Presents: The Heartbeat of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology: Feelings, Fire and Fuel (S10)
The fields of speech-language pathology and audiology are changing. Needs within our professional domains include workload increases, minimal time for collaboration, lack of understanding for our roles/responsibilities and ultimately, decreased job satisfaction. This collective time will prioritize advocacy practices to maximize our bandwidth and impact as service providers, educators and individuals.
Luncheon Presenter
Lori Stewart Gonzalez, PhD, CCC-SLP, Presents: Recharge, Reignite and Renew (S60)
It is critical that communication professionals identify strategies to recharge their energy, reignite their passions and renew the commitment to themselves, their families and those they serve. Dr. Gonzalez will provide an energized session on how to maintain continued attention to care as related to self and positive thinking for continued impact in your personal and professional lives.
Presenters
Our Convention Co-Directors, Candra Grether and Alice Inman, along with the track chairs, are working to bring you a program full of informative sessions and interesting topics. Please check back to see a sneak peak of what you can look forward to at the February 2023 Convention.
